Keep Cool with Frozen Fruits
With summer in full swing and warmer temperatures greeting us, keeping cool can be challenging. Here are a couple fun suggestions to involve the kids, and keep cool in the kitchen, while enjoying the fresh fruits that summer has to offer:
Melon “ice” cubes – take watermelon, cantaloupe or honeydew melon and cut them into 1 inch cubes. Put them in the freezer and use them as ”ice” cubes to add flavor to your water. Fruits provide electrolytes and water, which help keep the body hydrated.
Homemade fruit pops – take a combination of your favorite summer fruits, for example, peaches, blueberries and raspberries. Chop them up and place them in a Dixie cup and pour 100% Orange Juice over the top until all fruit is covered. Place a popsicle stick in the middle and place them in the freezer until solid. Enjoy these treats in between outdoor activities this summer!
Frozen Grapes – if you haven’t tried this yet, you are in for a sweet summer (or anytime) treat! Select your favorite grape variety and place them in the freezer. These make a refreshing snack and provide a quick “pick-me-up” after spending time in the summer sun!
Have the kiddos pick out their favorite fruit varieties and see how many fun fruit combinations you can come up with!
